• Te Mata Tops 2025 Auctions

Te Mata Estate’s flagship Cabernet Merlot, Coleraine, has once again asserted its dominance at the top of New Zealand’s wine auction market. Long regarded as one of the country’s most collectable wines, Coleraine continues to make headlines for its consistent ability to command premium prices on the secondary market.

  • 2 x Top NZ Wines of 2025

Te Mata Estate is immensely proud to have not one but two wines named among James Suckling’s Top 20 NZ Wines of the Year – a rare honour in the world of fine wine! Coleraine Cabernet Merlot 2023 and Elston Chardonnay 2024 sit alongside some of the most celebrated wines in the country, marking a moment of recognition that reflects decades of dedication, vision, and craftsmanship. For any winery, placement in this list is a remarkable achievement; for a single estate to appear twice in the Top 20 is very uncommon.

  • Multi-Generational NZ Wine

There is something quietly magical about a bottle of wine that does more than mark a moment. It becomes part of a story that can stretch across decades. At Te Mata Estate, this idea is not romantic fantasy. It is a living tradition built on craftsmanship, place, and time.

  • The Real Review x Te Mata

Senior winemaker Phil Brodie takes Stephen Wong MW inside the barrel hall and cellar, where they taste the latest vintage wines straight from barrels and tanks. This episode offers a rare behind-the-scenes look at one of the country’s greatest estates.

  • Coleraine as Investment Class

‘Aotearoa produces premium wine that tops the award charts globally. For this reason, many wine enthusiasts will have the first of March pencilled in their calendars, and quite rightly so, as it is the annual release of Te Mata Estate’s flagship Coleraine.

  • Coleraine Sets New Record

‘A collection of 37 Te Mata Estate wine bottles was bought twice at the Hawke’s Bay Wine Auction after the initial purchaser generously donated the collection back to be resold. The event raised $335,697 in support of Cranford Hospice, beating the 2023 auction, which raised $300,000.’

  • Wine Advocate x Te Mata Estate

‘2021 Te Mata Estate Coleraine – RP 98. The 2021 Coleraine is the third in a trio of great vintages and comprises a blend of 56% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Merlot and 12% Cabernet Franc … This wine is like a star coming into existence—there’s a bang, a burst of light and a settling period—and it’s astoundingly good.’

  • Top NZ Wineries 2025

Amazing to be recognised again among NZ’s Top Wineries for 2025!
Congratulations to our team! This achievement – published by @therealrvw – reflects a profound amount of work. We’re proud be rising through the ranks, building on what we do everyday.

  • Five Stars for Coleraine ’23

‘Breed, rather than brute power, is the hallmark of Coleraine, estate-grown in the Havelock North Hills and matured in French oak barriques, predominantly new. This notably graceful red is a blend of cabernet sauvignon (80%), merlot (15%) and cabernet franc (5%). Dark and purple-flushed, it is mouthfilling with dense, well-ripened blackcurrent, plum and spice flavours, oak complexity, and a finely structured, very harmonious finish. Best drinking 2030+ (13.5% alc/vol).’ Michael Cooper, The Listener 2025
