A Global Name

Te Mata Estate is a globally recognised wine brand, with its wines now available in over 45 countries worldwide. Internationally focused since the early 1900s, the estate has a long and established history of export, supported today by a network of trusted international distributors. Te Mata wines can be delivered across multiple international markets, as well as directly to homes throughout New Zealand, ensuring access to the estate’s wines wherever they are enjoyed.

Over decades of continuous stewardship, Te Mata Estate has combined technological innovation with a deep respect for heritage, producing an internationally acclaimed portfolio of red and white wines. Flagship labels such as Coleraine, Awatea, Bullnose Syrah, Elston Chardonnay, Cape Crest Sauvignon Blanc and Zara Viognier, alongside the Estate Vineyards collection, have earned global recognition for their craft, precision, and classical expression. Produced exclusively from the estate’s own vineyards, these wines reflect Hawke’s Bay provenance while reinforcing Te Mata’s standing as a truly international wine estate.

A Heritage Site

Te Mata Estate is a globally unique vineyard site, and a cornerstone of New Zealand wine history. At the foothills of Te Mata Peak – one of the first spots on the planet to see the sun each day – Te Mata vineyards are home to the country’s earliest plantings of Cabernet Sauvignon, and Chardonnay that remain in full production today.  All Te Mata wines are still made and bottled on this original site, within the original buildings, making the Estate the first vineyards and winery in New Zealand to be legally protected for its viticultural and cultural significance. It stands as a living testament to the origins and continuity of New Zealand wine.

Established in 1896 in Hawke’s Bay – one of the country’s most diverse and expressive wine regions – Te Mata Estate has specialised in high-quality wines of classical style since 130 years ago. The region’s varied soils, slopes, and climate provide an exceptional natural toolkit, while every step of production is undertaken onsite, from grape growing to bottling. Today, Te Mata uniquely combines New Zealand’s oldest winemaking facilities with the most technically advanced cellars in the country, continuing an unbroken tradition of estate winemaking on this historic land.
