Original Winemaking Note

Cape Crest '98

They grapes were destemmed, crushed, chilled and drained, then fermented in 225 litre oak casks, most of which were second and third use barrels. The wine was finally blended and bottled in late spring.

Te Awanga

Cape Crest and its gannet symbol refer to Cape Kidnappers, the southern point of Hawke Bay, home to the world’s largest mainland colony of these remarkable marine birds.

The grapes were hand harvested on the 18th and 27th March.
