Coleraine 2016

'There’s a lot of promise in this wine with fresh red fruit aromas, leafy garden herb and animal notes. This is one to keep in the cellar and see how it unwinds.'

Australian Wine Reviews, ANDREW GRAHAM, August 2018 Featuring: Coleraine 2016

Coleraine ’16- 'Less ripeness, more coiled power. Reminds of the composure of the ’14. Bound up in oak but the kicker is the acid feels natural. More elegance and a real perfect smoothness here. Really generous in its round appeal and seamless tannins. Very fine. One of the best.' 95 Points

'Coleraine '16 - A head-spinning array of violet, red and black fruits, gentle spiced biscuit oak, olive and lead pencil. It’s medium-bodied, succulent, yet firm, with toothsome tannin, a beautiful mouth-perfume, black tea and small just ripe berries, and a finish where freshness, vibrancy and tannin push the wine very long. A classic vintage, stunning wine, precision.' 97 points

Gary Walsh, The Winefront Australia, March 2018 Featuring: Coleraine 2016

'Medium-full bodied, the flavours are bold, up-front and show intensity, with a tightly bound heart, showing ripe dark-red and blackberry fruit, along with blackcurrant notes, dark-red plums and a layering of dark herbs. This is a more elegant Coleraine with black fruits and plenty of structure and finesse.' 18.5+/20 ★★★★★

‘Arguably New Zealand’s most prestigious wine. No one dreamed such a wine could be made from New Zealand grapes. Dramatically raising the bar for red wine in New Zealand.'

Coleraine '16 Review Summary, Bob Campbell Decanter Magazine, October 2018 Featuring: Coleraine 1982, Coleraine 1983, Coleraine 2016

Wine writer André Simon in 1964 on tasting a 1912 Te Mata Estate red blend half a century after it was first bottled ... 'This really is quite good. No sign of decay. One would not have thought it would have kept this long. Remarkable, quite remarkable.’

‘New Zealand Wines and the Question of Age’ Rebecca Gibb, Meininger’s Wine Business International, September 2018 Featuring: Coleraine 2016, Merlot/Cabernets 2017, Awatea 2016

Coleraine '16 - 'With fine colour, the wine shows fantastic aromatic complexity of cassis, graphite, cedar and gravel fruits. The palate is classic for a merlot blend: fleshy red raspberry fruits on a bright and taut palate underpinned by open knit, balanced tannins and some mocha scented oak. Still closed, the wine’s concentration, balance and structure suggest it will drink well for a decade, if not two.’

Angus Hughson, ‘In The Clouds’ THE AUSTRALIAN, October 2018 Featuring: Coleraine 2016

'Coleraine ’16- Darker, riper fruit notes dominate the bouquet: black and red with some typical violet and blueberry grace notes. Full-bodied, with abundant fleshy extract and tannin structure providing appropriate grip. It's a bright, fresh, tightly-focused wine with terrific line and length.' 96 Points

Huon Hooke THE REAL REVIEW, Coleraine Vertical Tasting, August 2018 Featuring: Coleraine 2016

‘The Buck family of the Te Mata estate produce the best New Zealand wine I have come across ... could have passed muster as a classed-growth claret.’
