WINEMAKING The whole grape clusters were pressed, with most of the juice run to older French oak barrels for fermentation, lees aging and stirring. The balance of the juice was separately cool fermented in tank. After 8 months’ maturation, the resulting wines were blended, fi ned and bottled in December 2008.
VINEYARDS Fully ripe viognier grapes were hand-harvested between 12 and 25 March 2008, from several passes across the sloping, middle terrace of the vineyard.
ORIGIN Zara is affectionately named after Zara Buck, the first born child of the third generation of Te Mata Estate’s Buck family. Zara spent her childhood playing amongst the vines at the vineyard which is home to this delightful viognier.
