
FINANCE DIRECTOR, SHAREHOLDER
A chartered accountant by profession, Michael has a commerce degree from Victoria University of Wellington, and is a fellow of the NZ Institute of Chartered Accountants.
Michael spent most of his career as a partner in the Wellington office of KPMG, where he was Managing Partner. He was subsequently appointed as National Chairman of the firm, a position he held for five years, and was a member of the KPMG International Board.
Michael has been Chairman of many organizations throughout his career including Chairman of New Zealand Post, Land Transport Safety Authority, Early Childhood Development Unit, Wellington City Mission, a founding chair of Karori Wildlife Sanctuary and Chair of NZ Red Cross Foundation. In honour of his services to business and the community Michael was recognised in 1997 when he received the award of Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit (ONZM)
Michael’s interest in wine started in the 1970s as founding member of the Magnum Society in Wellington and was a judge at the THC / NZ Air NZ National Wine Competitions from 1973 to 1985.
June, Michael’s wife of over 40 years, also has a keen interest in wine after growing up on a vineyard near Mildura in Australia. Together, Michael and June have four grown up children with nine grandchildren. They live in Waikanae on the Kapiti Coast of the North Island.
